The Seestar S50 Pro builds on the success of the earlier Seestar S50 Smart Telescope, offering an upgraded, fully automated GoTo system designed for both nature observation and astrophotography. It features two integrated cameras and is operated through ZWO’s reliable Seestar app on either a smartphone or tablet, with connectivity available via Wi‑Fi or NFC.
Astrophotography is made extremely accessible with this model. Its apochromatic quadruplet lens system produces crisp, high‑contrast images with excellent suppression of chromatic aberration, while advanced coatings help maintain brightness. The highly sensitive sensor keeps noise levels low, even during extended deep‑sky exposures. A built‑in dual‑line filter reduces interference from artificial lighting, making it possible to observe galaxies and nebulae even from urban balconies. Additional noise reduction and image‑style adjustments can be applied directly in the app, and photos can be shared immediately.
Captured images can be saved in JPEG or FITS formats, and video recordings in MP4 or AVI. The telescope includes 128 GB of internal storage for secure data handling.
With the help of onboard sensors, star charts, and your device’s GPS, the Seestar Pro automatically aligns and calibrates itself with the night sky. The system is designed to be intuitive, allowing beginners to achieve impressive results. Autofocus ensures consistently sharp images, whether you are photographing deep‑sky objects or landscapes.
Locating targets is straightforward: choose an object from the “Tonight’s Best” list in the app, and the telescope will position itself and begin tracking. The app provides access to a catalogue of over 4,000 celestial objects, complete with detailed information and planning tools. During the day, the included solar filter can be attached magnetically to the front of the telescope, enabling safe imaging of sunspots.
The S50 Pro uses an OmniVision OSOB10 colour sensor (1/1.2″, 2.9 µm, 8.3 MP) paired with a quadruplet lens, offering a 2.8° field of view. This is a notable improvement over the original S50 model. An integrated anti‑fog heater prevents condensation on the optics.
A second camera, equipped with a Sony IMX586 colour sensor (1/2″, 1.6 µm, 8.3 MP), provides a wide 63° field of view ideal for nightscapes and landscape photography. This allows the S50 Pro to handle both deep‑sky imaging and wide‑angle scenes in one instrument, whether at night or during daytime nature observation.
The Milky Way panorama mode enables sweeping wide‑field captures, star trails, and mosaic imaging. The enhanced stitching engine can merge multiple 4K frames into detailed 8K composite images. The telescope also supports calibrated photometry for monitoring variable stars and potentially detecting novae.
The included tripod allows azimuth operation, but with optional accessories the telescope can be mounted equatorially for longer exposures. The internal 10,000 mAh battery provides around nine hours of use under laboratory conditions, and additional power can be supplied via USB‑C.
